The largest fish in the ocean is, in fact, the tremendous whale shark, reaching about 60 feet in length. What sea creatures other than sharks may be dangerous to swimmers? Shark and Dogfish species are taken by targeted gillnet, trawl and line fisheries, and as bycatch of many Australian trawl fisheries. Although they are considered primarily nocturnal they may be observed searching for food during any part of the day. The spiny dogfish shark can carry young for about two years, while basking sharks (seen in the photo above) can carry them for as long as three years, and the frilled shark can wait 3.5 years before giving birth.
